Eight details that make a roofing quotation faster and more accurate

The information architects, contractors, owners and procurement teams should prepare before requesting roofing prices.
A useful quote begins with a buildable brief
Roofing is not priced reliably from floor area alone. Two buildings with the same footprint can require different quantities because of slope, geometry, profile cover, end laps, openings, valleys, overhangs and accessory details. Installation pricing also changes with height, access, existing conditions and safety requirements.
A strong enquiry does not need to be a completed construction package. It needs enough information to separate known facts from assumptions.
The eight essentials
- Project location and building use
- Actual sloping dimensions for every roof plane
- Roof slope and drainage direction
- Supporting structure and purlin spacing
- Openings, valleys, parapets and penetrations
- Heat, noise, daylight, corrosion, fire and finish priorities
- Supply-only, fabrication, delivery, installation or repair scope
- Programme, working height, access and old-roof conditions
Use the quantity planner correctly
Choose the product first, then enter actual roof length and sloping width. The calculator applies a product-family planning allowance and, where source-listed effective cover is available, can estimate an indicative sheet count.
The final schedule must confirm usable cover, stock or cut lengths, laps, ridge and edge details, openings, accessories and the cut plan. Treat the result as a conversation starter, not a purchase quantity.
Photographs that save time
For repairs or extensions, send one wide image showing the complete roof, close images of the problem, the underside where safe, gutters and downpipes, and the access route. Do not climb onto a fragile or wet roof to obtain photographs; safe access comes first.
