START WITH THE RIGHT QUESTIONS

Six practical guides for a better first brief.

Use these primers to prepare a more useful conversation. Product-specific technical values must still be checked against the current manufacturer literature and quotation.

MATERIALS

Material selection

Compare metal sheets, PUF panels, shingles, uPVC and daylight roofing by building use—not sheet price alone.

  • Weather and corrosion exposure
  • Thermal and daylight priorities
  • Roof slope, span and finish

QUOTATION

Preparing a quote

The dimensions, drawings, photos and site details that make a roofing estimate more useful.

  • Actual sloping surface dimensions
  • Project location and access
  • Supply-only or installation scope
Ask a specialist ↗
INSULATION

Heat and insulation

Questions to ask when indoor temperature, condensation and energy performance matter.

  • Building occupancy and internal heat
  • Insulation core and thickness
  • Vapour and joint sealing
Ask a specialist ↗
REPAIRS

Leak diagnosis

Document symptoms systematically before requesting a roof-repair inspection.

  • Leak location versus roof source
  • Laps, penetrations and flashings
  • Gutter and drainage condition
Ask a specialist ↗
DETAILS

Roof accessories

Flashings, gutters, fasteners, sealants and tapes belong in the first material conversation.

  • Compatible fastener and washer
  • Ridge, verge and valley details
  • Outlet and downpipe capacity
Ask a specialist ↗
EXECUTION

Installation planning

Access, storage, sequencing and safety considerations before roofing materials reach site.

  • Unloading and safe storage
  • Support readiness and tolerances
  • Weather window and work sequence

HOW TO MEASURE ROOFING AREA

Use the surface, not only the floor plan.

For a simple roof face, multiply the actual sloping length by its width. Add all roof or wall surfaces, then allow for laps, cuts and site waste. Complex roofs should be divided into measurable rectangles or triangles and verified from drawings.

Choose a product and calculate area
  1. MEASUREMeasure each actual roof or wall surface

Use feet for length and width. For pitched roofs, measure or derive the slope length.

  2. TOTALAdd all surface areas

Subtract large openings only when the product and installation method justify it.

  3. ALLOWAdd a planning allowance

Use 5–10% for simple surfaces and more for hips, valleys, angles and intricate cuts.

  4. VERIFYLet ReZa verify cover and quantities

Effective cover width, lap direction, stock length and flashing details affect the final order.
